5. Some of the minor characters in the novel include Mollie, Moses and Benjamin. Explain the role of any two of these stated characters. What part do they play in the novel?
(One thing i immediately tend to notice is that there is only 1 paragraph for Moses, but 4 paragraphs for Benjamin, making your response seem imbalanced)
Moses brainwashes animals and 'comforts' them that even if they are presently facing harsh and tough lives, they will still eventually be rewarded in Sugarcandy Mountain. The main purpose of this was to motivate the animals to work harder. (Important: include - who is Moses? When and why does he disappear and then re-appear? What does Moses represent?)
Benjamin contributed to the battle of the cowshed. For example "he prodded and butted the men from everyside, turned round and lashed at them with his small hoofs". Benjamin took the risk of injuring himself unlike some other animals like Mollie who hides herself when the battle started. (include who Benjamin is)
Benjamin helped to build the windmill. He utilised the force of gravity. For example "Benjamin yoked themselves into an old governess-cart and did their share". (This paragraph seems a bit awkward. What are you trying to say? His role is to work?)
He noticed and found out that the two men were packing blasting powder into the hole. He was wise enough to notify the other animals who were not as smart to understand what was going on. Benjamin gave wise advice to other animals. For example "order Boxer to work less hard"
Benjamin was the one who found out that Boxer was sent away on the van to the knackers and notified other animals. He was smarter to understand what was going on (this should be combined with the paragraphs just above sicne it is also dealing with his wiseness.) After this, you should discuss who Benjamin stands for. Even though it is not mentioned, we can conclude that he represents the minority of intelligent people among the lower working class. His role is to represent the voice of the intelligent minority, who are smart enough to realise the injustices that are going on (give examples if possible), but who are too powerless or simple lack the energy/motivation to do anything against it.
Mollie played the role of a pampered lazy mare who ran away after the Rebellion because she could not adapt to the life of working equally and getting up early. (more detail requird. What does Mollie do instead of working? How dow e know that she cannot adapt to the new lifestyle? What does she do in the end? Develop your point further)
Mollie represents the pampered aristocracy who fled abroad after the revoulution. (elaborate a bit more on why they fled, and in what way she is similar to them - e.g. used to a comfortable, luxurious lifestyle)
Moses played the role of Jone's helper at the start of the book but became the pigs helper at the ending part of the book . He was there to boost the morale of the animals giving them hope that "Sugarcandy mountain", which was heaven to them, was a place where they could not be underfed or overworked would welcome them when they die (why is he doing this?). He stands for an important Russian instituation. He represented the Russian Orthodex Church which boosts morales of the people to keep them satisfied, to provide them with hope of a better future, so that they would not rebel against the current leaders and political system (relate this no Napoleon and the pigs letting Moses stay on the farm towards the end despite knowing that he is lying about Sugercandy Mountain)

can i say that even if moses told tales, in a way he helped the farm beacause if he had not brainwashed the aimals after napoleon took ditatorship, the animals might have rebelled and ended up being killed by napoleon dogs?
Hi Manisha,
If all the animals rebelled together, dont you think they could have easily outnumbered the pigs and dogs? Did his lies help to improve the lives of the animals? or was his purpose only to serve Napoleon and the pigs and to keep the animals from rebelling? You may not be wrong, but the thing to consider is how convincing your point is.
